I have been a register member since June 1982 when I bought this Twilight Grey ZA from the original owner. Now I have owned the car longer than he did and added a few small adventures. The car was registered in Gosport where I bought it and has resided in the Worthing area since then. Restoration work was done by the Shortens in the late 80s and has served over the years both as family transport and of the focus of summer outings when our sons were small. In the 90s the car was seen regularly at register events when I served as first competition secretary then chair of the register. Her last overseas trip was to the Champagne region for our 25th anniversary, and we have added 10 more years of very little use since then! She doesn t get out much these days, but she makes a once a year pilgrimage to the Goodwood Revival in September, surely the biggest period fancy dress party in the world. The picture is from the 2009 event. Steve Adlem

The picture was taken on the Albula Pass (Canton of Grisons, Switzerland) at an altitude of about 2100 m. The car is an exellent climber and until now I never had problems with overheating, not even on the Stelvio, with more than 2800 m the peak of all European passes.
The car was first registred in Basel, Switzerland, on October 1st, 1956 as a RHD export version. During the fifties it was not unusual to drive RHD cars in Switzerland. The car always remained in Switzerland, having a extensive restauration in the early eighties. Since then the various previous owners did not use the car often, so it is still in perfect condition and very reliable.

The car was an export model purchased in the UK by its original owner with the intention of exporting back to the US. I purchased the car from the estate of a wealthy doctor who used it as his summer car on Long Island, NY. I am its second owner. Apart from a re-spray it has never been restored. I guess he got tired of the original grey - I would too as it is a bit drab! The car was always pampered and has so little rust it's unbelievable. I won't ever restore it as I love the original patina, but now I too am thinking about a slight change of colour. Fashions change you know. Eric Wilson,Vancouver, BC,Canada

I have however started the Re - Restoration of same and I hope to finish it and have it road worthy once again by the end of the year. You will see from the pic's it was a major job that I performed the first time round. This time however the magnitude is far less I am sure.

This ZA is shown in Palisade, Colorado where it was bought by Carl Goodwin (from Ohio) and more recently, 2020 in Houston where Ray Holtapple purchased the ZA to restore to original, saving it from the last keeper's project of a large V8 engine. According to Carl the car was originally a black-plate California car bought from Kjell Qvale (later suspected of being the infamous Zodiac Killer) by the Pillsbury baking family. It was later sold to their gardener and then to Mimi Willis, who moved from California to Palisade, CO. The car stopped running with 53,640 miles on the odometer and sat for 30 years
