MG Saloon Day
20th July 2008 at Lamport Hall and Gardens
MG Saloon Day is the annual event of the MG 'M' Group - a club that caters for MG Metros, Maestros and Montegos. Lots of the club's members have other MGs so this event allows MGs of all ages to attend and be on display. In recent years large numbers of MGs built by MG Rover (ZR, ZS, ZT, ZT-T) have attended which has been a welcome addition to the show. In 2007 the MG Magnette Register also decided to support the event and it was great to see ten Magnettes at that show.
For this year's event on 20th July, it was unfortunate that MG Saloon Day clashed with another event that the Magnette register had booked to attend. So we did not expect to see any Magnettes this year. However we were pleasantly surprised when four MG Magnettes arrived throughout the day - a ZA, a ZB and two ZB Varitones - nicely representing the range of production. The event took place on one of the few sunny days of the summer and the Magnettes looked fantastic set against the backdrop of the beautiful Lamport Hall.
The Magnettes were not the oldest MG Saloons at the show as they were joined by a 1950 MG Y-Type which contributed to an interesting line-up. Incidentally the newest car was an MG ZR that was registered in September 2007, so MG Saloon Day proudly boasted 57 years of MG cars in one place and there was only one MGB! This makes a change for those of us used to being in the minority when we attend shows in our 4-door MGs.
MG Saloon Day 2009 is currently being planned so watch out for more details at the start of next year on www.mgmgroup.org.uk and in the MG press.
