MG Magnettes at Speed on Tweed

by Brian Woolmer

Murwillumbah is a town on the Tweed River in northern NSW, Australia. During October, it hosts a speed festival that can best be described as a ‘horizontal hillclimb on a street circuit.’ Historic racing and touring cars gather to compete in the time trials street parades and static displays. The event is incredibly popular and draws competitors from all over Australia.

Two Magnettes faced the starter in 2005. Bruce Smith’s ZA (pale blue from NSW) and George Diggle’s ZB (red from Queensland). Both cars averaged about 58 seconds per run. Not enough to win their division on the day.

Both cars attracted a lot of attention from the many spectators who came through the pit area. Speed on Tweed is a great event. Magnettes love it and it loves them.
