Athelhampton House
As promised, pictures of the Bournemouth and District MG Car Club's show at Athelhampton House, Dorset. Alan Slack acted as co-ordinator with Nigel Hedges of the MG Car Club. Normally only one or two Magnettes attend, but Nigel asked Alan to make an extra effort to get more there, as it was our 50th Anniversary. 7 Magnettes attended, 2 ZA's and 5 Varitones The venue is a privately owned Tudor House and Gardens, open to the public during the summer. They have an excellent restaurant, but the idea of the day was to picnic in the beautiful and tranquil gardens of the house. This is an annual event, and next year they hope to get ex MGB owner Terry Waite along. Also the house was used in the making of the film "Sleuth", starring Michael Caine and Sir Laurence Olivier. In the film, Michael Caine drives an MGB, the property of the owner of Athelhampton House. They will invite Michael Caine along next year as well. Other MGs there were a PB, a YB, some T series , and lots of Midgets, MGAs, and MGBs, about 80 cars in total. I hope that this whets everyones appetite to attend next year, it is a perfect venue for MG enthusiasts to meet at, the elegance of the Magnettes complimented by the elegance of the house and gardens. The cars were displayed on the lawn in front of the house, and looked so impressive that Nigel Hedges has offered the same prominent position if as many wish to go next year.
