Purchased this ZA on 28th September 2011. It was first registered in Jersey on 6th April 1956 and has remained in the Island throughout its life. I am the fifth owner. It was completely professionally restored by the owner prior to me, starting in 1996. Since then it has covered only 483 miles, so due to lack of use is presently being recommissioned. A truly magnificent example of this lovely model'.

The first owner of this magnette was a docto, who imported her from england after his graduatearound 1960.  He still is a Prof. and teaching at siriraj hospital in Bangkok.  I work at the north of thailand. I saw her at a garage in good condition only the backlights are changed over from a VW Beetle. I was told the looks like nissan j15.

Registration number is MBL 450 and people tell me that they have seen this number in books but of course cannot remember which book! I have seen MBL numbers on works MGA rally cars and Magnettes used as press demonstrators, perhaps someone could help with the early history of this car. Roger Dockray, UK

I bought it three years ago in boxes - two previous owners had disassembled it and done some body work and applied an incorrect Varitone paint scheme. I assembled enough to get it operational and rebuilt the brakes and converted it with the help of the Hints and Tips section to negative ground and an alternator. I have to build a complete interior for it and I want to add a Hi-Gear 5 speed kit. My son and I are having a lot of fun with it now.

Since I registered my Magnette, I have completed building the 3-Main 1800 with a Derrington pattern cross-flow head and instlled the Hi-Gear Ford T9 transmission with an MGB 3.91 differential and added disk brakes. Recently, I was able to attend MG2016 at Louisville, KY US and park my Magnette in a group of 14 other Mangettes

Since then, has moved to New South Wales, Western Australia, & now South Australia where it takes part regularly in MGCCSA events. A very original car body and interior (other than colour change), and has probably only been around the clock once. Known as "Vera", to match "Varitone"! Its local South Australian registration no' is MGZB-58.

I have just been offered this car which is in a state of disrepair. It has been stripped of many parts many years ago, I have confirmed that this was before 1970 but cannot tell when, however the DVLA have a record of someone registering an MG Magnette with same registration (727APD) in 1982 and using till 1997, my chassis plate has been removed!! So read the number off the body stamping i think I've done it accurately but has been rusting for very long time. I need any information I can get to get this car back on the road, we all know how the DVLA are in cases like this! I suspect the other one is a ringer unfortunately!

I have been a register member since June 1982 when I bought this Twilight Grey ZA from the original owner. Now I have owned the car longer than he did and added a few small adventures. The car was registered in Gosport where I bought it and has resided in the Worthing area since then. Restoration work was done by the Shortens in the late 80s and has served over the years both as family transport and of the focus of summer outings when our sons were small. In the 90s the car was seen regularly at register events when I served as first competition secretary then chair of the register. Her last overseas trip was to the Champagne region for our 25th anniversary, and we have added 10 more years of very little use since then! She doesn t get out much these days, but she makes a once a year pilgrimage to the Goodwood Revival in September, surely the biggest period fancy dress party in the world. The picture is from the 2009 event. Steve Adlem

The picture was taken on the Albula Pass (Canton of Grisons, Switzerland) at an altitude of about 2100 m. The car is an exellent climber and until now I never had problems with overheating, not even on the Stelvio, with more than 2800 m the peak of all European passes.
The car was first registred in Basel, Switzerland, on October 1st, 1956 as a RHD export version. During the fifties it was not unusual to drive RHD cars in Switzerland. The car always remained in Switzerland, having a extensive restauration in the early eighties. Since then the various previous owners did not use the car often, so it is still in perfect condition and very reliable.
