MGs in the Park 2014
The Oxfordshire MGOC event at the Cotswolds Wildlife Park near Burford has deservedly become a popular fixture in the Magnette calendar over the last 2 or 3 years, as it’s open to all enthusiasts to just turn up on the day, and the Park generously allow free entry to MG drivers.
The weather on 1st June was particularly good, and in fact rather too warm for energetic pursuit of camels, rhinos and lions, so most of us settled for relaxed conversation and occasional forays for refreshments and to admire the other models assembled in the dedicated parking area. This was full to bursting with more than 400 cars ranging from vintage to MG3, so not surprisingly our allocated space had been slightly compressed from previous years. As visitors arrived throughout the morning there were eventually 14 Z Magnettes. Varitones predominated but there was a good range including Anthony White’s early tin-top ZA, and also the rare MkIV Auto Farina of Richard Hawkins.
Although Magnettes didn’t feature in the trophies awarded, it’s worth mentioning that long-standing Register member Tim Perkins picked up ‘best in show’ for his recently restored TA Tickford. The award for most unlucky would-be participant goes to our chairman David Halliday, who suffered engine trouble on the A40 for a third successive year and didn’t make it. Previous mishaps kept his Magnette out of action for several months, so we’re hoping it’ll be back on the road soon.
