BCLM, Wroxall and AGM - 2-3 July 2016

On Saturday morning about 12 Magnettes assembled at the Black Country Living Museum, along with a couple of other MGs and owners without their Magnettes. The day was overcast to start, with light rain, but not enough to spoil our enjoyment of the museum, which really brings to life the industrial history of the area with reconstructed buildings and machinery, populated by a ‘cast’ in period costume and appropriate accents. The tour of a real drift mine and the demonstration of chain-making by hand were particularly fascinating.

Organizers Alan and Julia Cleobury thoughtfully booked our fish & chip lunch in advance, a good move as the queue for Hobbs 1950s chippy was by then stretching back along the period shopping street. After further exploration of the museum in the afternoon we set off for the drive of an hour or so to Wroxall Abbey Hotel, where director Grant Howlett had as usual arranged excellent hospitality. Wroxall will be familiar to many after the GP100 and Magnette60 events, and this time we were rubbing shoulders with the MGC Register weekend - only metaphorically though as we had the use of the Courtyard, a former stable block, where our own evening barbecue was expertly prepared.

The Register AGM on Sunday morning, a fairly brief meeting as usual, was notable mainly for the presence of Chairman David Halliday (who hadn’t managed to be in Australia this time), and a couple of committee changes. Günter is relinquishing his Registrar role, which will be taken over by Cynthia Harris, but he continues as webmaster. Alan Cleobury also stepped down from committee, although he and Julia will doubtless continue to be closely involved in an unofficial capacity, and Rosie Jones hopes to hand over her Treasurer duties when a volunteer can be found. Following the AGM there was an optional scenic drive through the Cotswolds to Bourton.
