Carburettor Float Chamber Bottom Seals - AUC1534

Owners have reported some problems with replacement seals for the joint between the float chamber and the carb body. Some modern replacements are too hard and do not compress properly. This causes problems getting the fitting bolt threads to bite properly. And even if you manage to fit them, they are prone to leaks. If you are faced with this problem, send them back to the supplier as unfit for pupose.

The thick steel washer below the bottom seal is concave and should be fitted with the hollow side towards the seal. The retaining bolt should be tightened up to its shoulder but do not over-tighten. The joint is not designed to be totally rigid and a bit of movement is normal in response to a firm push.

Assembly can be eased with a bit of WD40, which will not attack the seal material.
