Choke cable repair

You may want to replace the choke inner cable if broken strands cause the cable to stick. The options are limited as the attachment of the inner cable to choke knob is unique to the Magnette and you can't simply buy a replacement assembly. It is possible to fit a complete choke cable from another model, however (as far as I know) there aren't any available with a removable dashboard knob. On the Magnette all the knobs are held on by spring-loaded pegs and taking them off allows the dashboard centre panel to be easily lifted out for access to instruments, or for complete dashboard removal
To keep this useful feature you may be able to find a good used replacement cable assembly, but the best solution is probably to solder a new inner cable onto the hexagonal rod to which the knob is attached.
Ease open the spring collar and slide it back along the housing. This allows the small metal locking key to drop out from its slot under the collar, then the choke pull can be completely withdrawn to access the end where the inner cable is soldered
Melt the solder to allow the old cable to be detached. This will leave some solder still in the end of the pull, so carefully drill down and across the end with a 1.5mm drill
A new 1mm Bowden cable can then be inserted and soldered, after which the cable is fed into the outer. The locking key is then replaced in its slot before sliding the spring collar back to retain it.
