East Kirby Event
19 July 2009
1600 hours and a huge black cloud over the airfield suddenly sprang a leak, causing a mass evacuation of exhibitors, the local roads being converted to rivers. The Lancaster bomber, of which more later, had just been safely housed in its hanger and so kept dry.

Z Magnette Day 2009
On last weekend in June Magnettes traditionally meet in Germany (or nearby countries) for the Magnette Day. The 13th edition took place in the Bergisches Land, where we all stayed in a lovely housing area. So no transfer to the hotel was necessary and you could have one or two more beer.

European Event of the Year 2009
Geiranger, Norway
This year’s European MG Event took place in Norway from June 10th – 13th in the beautiful landscape at Geiranger, which is situated some 400 km northwest of Olso.
I bought my ZB Magnette especially for this event so I could bring my parents who are as much in love with this part of Norway as I am, and since my father used to be a car mechanic it was of course obvious to invite the family.

The MG Magnette weekend in Somerset
30/31 May 2009
The weather was just about perfect when the first cars gathered at The Haynes Museum for the start of the Somerset weekend the sun was shining and the sky was blue, with a promise for the weather to continue over the entire two days.
A total of nine Magnettes showed up with plus others who were unable to bring their cars, Tony and Lesley car failed to start on the morning of departure from Devon, and John and Cynthia Harris had a battery failure again just before leaving home.
The event initially centred on the amazing Haynes Motor museum and everyone who visited, were amazed at the huge variety of cars and other motor related items, this took us to around lunchtime where we did a short run through the Somerset countryside using tulip directions and it caused much merriment as we had Magnettes going in all directions, but we all made it safely for a delicious cream tea in the heart of the peat moors.
In the evening we all met at The Camelot in the village of South Cadbury and had a wonderful meal, with great company and a lot of fun. Peter Martin won the long distance award, a jug of Somerset Cider.
Sunday saw the sun again in a clear blue sky when we all met at the Fleet Air Arm Museum for a coffee and a great couple of hours in this extraordinary venue which has a huge variation of exhibits from very early aeroplanes to Concord plus an atmospheric reconstruction of life on board an aircraft carrier.
After lunch we moved on to Stourhead National Trust house and gardens, we were supposed to meet the JEC who strangely did not materialise except for one lonely Jaguar MK2, disappointing but it did not detract from a very pleasant afternoon, a MGA turned up and a Lotus Elise, plus a late MGB.
Thanks to everyone who came, and for making the weekend complete, I sincerely hope you all enjoyed the weekend, and had a good journey home.
